Port Fish Day

Established in 1964, Port Washington annually celebrates its fishing heritage on the third Saturday in July with “Fish Day”, the “World’s Largest One Day Outdoor Fish Fry”.

Nine service and fraternal organizations serve 10,000 pounds of deep fried cod the traditional Wisconsin Fish Fry style.  Over 13,000 pounds of fried potatoes compliment the fish.  Plenty of beverages are available to quench your thirst!

A huge parade kicks off the day with over 100 units.  Get your spot early in the morning, as folks will stand 5 deep to view this spectacular event!  It is one of the last huge parades in the state.

Five music stages present live entertainment during this twelve-hour event.  The music ranges from local talents to nationally known artists.

There is a beautiful Arts & Crafts Festival with 100 artisans.  A Classic Car & Custom Rod Show compliments the Arts & Crafts.

For the children and teens there is a Family Stage, complete with an ice cream eating contest and other entertainers.  The Sports Area is where you can test your skills in the highly competitive “Famous Fish Toss”!  Sports figures and other sport related activities take place for your enjoyment.  A small carnival keeps things hopping!

Cooling off is handled by the Port Washington Fire Department’s water fight competition.  Fire Departments from around the area compete in a traditional tug-of-war water fight in which an empty barrel is suspended between two telephone poles and each department has to blast water from the fire hoses and push the barrel to the opponent’s side.  The excitement is wet and wild!

If competition is your taste, enter the annual smoked fish-eating contest!  Challenge your friends to a delicious endeavor!

Fish Day concludes at 10:00 pm with a spectacular fireworks display!  The coal dock serves as the launching pad as shells burst over the marina area!  There is not a bad seat on the lakefront for this!

Maritime Heritage Festival

A celebration of the maritime history of Port Washington is celebrated annually during the Maritime Heritage Festival.  Tall Ship tours are available for the ‘sailor’ in you!  Fine food, refreshments; artisans and entertainment fill your day.  Truly, a unique experience!

Lion’s Fest & Fish Derby

This is a BIG fish fishing contest with BIG prizes!  Anglers from across the nation gather to compete on Lake Michigan.  The “Fest” is entertainment galore and food varying from Fish and Chips to burgers and brats!  Even if fishing isn’t your calling, just watching the boats bring in these huge fish to shore is thrilling!
