Welcome to Port Washington, Wisconsin where natural beauty abounds, an abundance of historic attractions await you and warm, friendly people are eager to greet you.
Explore our beautiful Lake Michigan lakefront! The marina is considered by most to be the best on the Western shore of Lake Michigan. The friendly, knowledgeable staff is ready to serve you. The breakwater is a pedestrian friendly pier (during nice weather) that jets out into Lake Michigan to form the northern barrier that protects the marina from the Noreasters. The 1930s Art Deco lighthouse, at the end of the breakwater, is a beacon with a foghorn to bring home the boaters. While out on the breakwater, turn around to take into view the majestic steeples that reign over the city landscape.
Follow the lakefront north from the marina to find the natural sand beach. The beach remains in its natural state and does not provide lifeguards or dressing rooms.
While strolling the lakefront, take in the nautical historical aspects of Port Washington. There are two harbors. The North Slip is the first man-made harbor in the United States, dredged in 1870. The West Slip was dredged in 1935. Your adventure will take you past the Fishermens Memorial in Rotary Park, the Shipwreck Memorial, and the Chair Factory Marker.
As you venture two blocks west of the lakefront, you will enter the Historic Downtown. The downtown is the major shopping district of Port Washington. The Pebble House serves as our Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce. Just one block to the west of the downtown you will find the Historic Court House. Moving west on Grand Avenue you will find the Eghart House next to the library.
Due to the natural geographical design of Port Washington, it has the designation as the City of Seven Hills. Discover the hidden staircases that allow walkers short cuts to the tops of the hills. Take the 105-step staircase off of Jackson Street to experience the Historic Light Station. Built in 1860, the Light Station has been restored to her original beauty.
Port Washington, a unique past
a bright future!
